Abstract

In management literature, the issue of social entrepreneurship is a relatively new and fast-growing topic. The study focuses on the issue of 'social entrepreneurs' in Bangladesh with the help of two case studies of two individuals: Dr. Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank and Mr. Fazle Hasan Abed of BRAC. Their biographies and entrepreneurial journeys were analyzed and compared with those of the so called 'traditional' business/economic entrepreneurs. It was found that though both these parties vary in their biographical background, entrepreneurial mission and motivation, at the end of the day, both these parties are 'entrepreneurs' as they are future-oriented, innovators, risk takers and good organizers.

Keywords: social entrepreneurs, Bangladesh, economic entrepreneurs, Muhammad Yunus, Fazle Hasan Abed
