Abstract

In 1986 China enacted a comprehensive Civil Code. In 2002 the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress issued a discussion draft for a revised code. The property law revisions recently passed after wide debate. The subject of tort law will soon be considered by the legislature. Since the official discussion draft was issued scholars have produced suggested alternative drafts. The Tort Liability chapter, which first appeared in translation in the Peking University Press journal SiFa (Private Law Review), is presented here with an introductory essay.
