Abstract

Entering the European Union, Romanian companies should realize that the strengthening of the competition environment ask for the implementation of the best governance practices, including in the IT field. In the most generally way and totally accepted, IT governance means an ensemble of procedures and policies that assure that IT system of the enterprise sustain its objectives and strategies. This set of policies and strategies are intended to guide and control IT function in order to add value to the enterprise and to minimize IT risks.

Development of IT governance practices and the increased impact of these practices have the starting point in establishing of the IT governance principles. In our research we intend to analyze these principles and its implementation through the best practices in this domain: COBIT, ITIL, and ISO17799.

IT governance solutions provide total transparency of the IT projects and investments, the control needed for the optimization of the business and assurance for compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
