Corporate Governance and Resource Security in China - The Transformation of China's Global Resources Companies

Abstract

This book is based on an empirical study of China’s leading resources and metals companies and seeks to examine the nature of corporate governance practices in these firms. In-dept interviews were conducted with leading officers in these top 100 Chinese listed companies as well as with leading regulatory officials and professional advisers working with these firms. The book goes on to compare the governance arrangements in these Chinese companies with practices in a number of comparable foreign companies. The Chinese companies selected for this study included: Sinopec, PetroChina, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and the metals companies Aluminium Corporation of China (Chalco) and Baosteel. Comparisons were made with a number of western resources companies, including: BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Shell and Chevron. The chapters of this book are as follows:
