Abstract

This paper highlights role of RFID as IT enabler in supply chain management. Paper focuses on RFID and its impact on supply chain effectiveness. RFID acts as the catalyst for improving performance in the supply chain through increased visibility. The increased accuracy, visibility and real time decision making that RFID enables translates into increased responsiveness and better forecasting and planning in the supply chain.

Many global companies had started using RFID tags in their supply chain to increase visibility, efficiency and effectiveness. This paper highlights benefits of RFID and its positive impact on supply chain. Paper also discusses requirement set up for RFID based supply chain. Paper also underlines global trend of big retailers such as Wal-Mart of USA and Metra of Germany for RFID driven supply chain. Paper also underlines present bottlenecks of RFID for its widespread application in supply chain. Paper also highlights RFID based supply chain scenario in India.
