Book Review of ‘In the Interests of Justice: Reforming the Legal Profession,’ by Deborah L. Rhode

Abstract

Professor Rhode's work is an important contribution to the advancement of the enterprise of understanding not just narrow issues of legal ethics, but the broader issues of the legal profession, its role in contemporary society, and its effectiveness in delivering necessary professional services, not simply to the rich, but across a broad spectrum of society. Nonetheless, a broader and more ambitious agenda clearly requires an equally broad and ambitious methodology. Whether we can continue to make strides in this area depends upon our willingness to pursue additional modes of analysis and lines of inquiry. Given the current orientation of legal scholarship in the United States, that may well prove difficult.
