Abstract

The paper addresses the problem of the future development of tourism by focusing on three main issues: an analysis of what we can expect the future to look like in the next few decades; a full description of the tourism regulation regimes that are available to states and the most likely ones to be applied by governments; and the importance of tourism and the question of whether, as an industry, it is critical enough to warrant increased or decreased governmental subsidies or regulation.
