Abstract
Leasing contracts are regulated in the Articles 212 to 236 "Contract law of the People's Republic of China". In 2009 the Supreme People's Court has issued a judicial interpetation regarding leasing contracts, which is to be applied by the Chinese courts since September 1, 2009.
The paper explains leasing contract law based on a commentary about the new judicial interpretation published by the 1st Civil Chamber of the Supreme People's Court with regard to void leasing contracts, the treatment of multiple leasing contracts concluded on one and the same leased property, the dissolution of leasing contracts, the legal consequences of structural alterations to the leased property through the lessee, sublease and the changing of the contracting parties.
