Abstract
The purpose of a temporary restraining order (TRO) is to prevent immediate and irreparable harm by preserving the status quo, ex parte if necessary, until a formal hearing can be held. Often documents must be obtained and pleadings drafted in a rush to the courthouse before the proverbial axe falls. This article presents a detailed checklist to help lawyers organize what has to be done to obtain a TRO and remind them of what they will need to take with them to court.
