Abstract
The main objective of this study is to make an in-depth analysis of the development of Small scale industries (SSI) in the rural areas of the states of the north-eastern region (NER) of India. The SSI sector is studied in the term as of changes in the number of enterprises and employees, working status classification, firm size and types of organization in the region. It focuses especially to the role and profile of entrepreneurs. It was found the in most of the states SSIs are growing in the rural areas. Another important feature is emergence of women and tribal entrepreneurs. If this trend continued then this change will play important role in the rural development and transforming the economies of this region.
