Abstract
This is the power point presentation including link to the live video of the lecture, of my inaugural lecture at the University of Brussels where I was awarded the Belgian Francqui Chair 2010-2011. In the first part of the lecture I identify three causes of the negative imago of lawyers, being their ambiguous relationship with truth, with clients and with codes of ethics. In the second part, I argue that a new frame of reference, positive and collaborative, inspired by principled or collaborative negotiation may offer inspiration for a new ethics for lawyers in particular and professionals in general. I argue that such inspiration may be caught in two slogans: educate your client and educate your self.
