Abstract
Are lawyers who take up Lincoln's appeal to be peacemakers while representing clients in mediation setting themselves up for an ethical fall? Not all argues, asserts the author, who argues that the model rules of professional conduct regarding scope of representation, client communication, informed consent, and lawyer as advisor leave room for a vision of zealousness that promotes, rather than undermines, key mediation values.
Keywords: mediation, ethics, professional conduct, self-determination, zealous representation
