Abstract

This short paper briefly was originally created for Constitution Day 2011. The paper describes the impact the U.S. Bill of Rights has had on other human rights instruments and how other nations and international human rights instruments have moved beyond the socio-political rights found in the Bill of Rights to include environmental and economic rights. The paper concludes by noting that the U.S. seems mostly unwilling to look beyond its borders to determine what "rights" means and how doing so could benefit U.S. citizens.
