Abstract

Tawia Ansah is a single, Black, gay man who desperately wanted to be a father. This piece tells the story of how he fulfilled his dream. Professor Ansah recounts his attempts to adopt a baby or have one with the help of an American surrogate. He ultimately turned to India and the increasingly popular surrogacy services that it offers. This moving account explores the challenges and dilemmas faced by gay males whose options for becoming parents are limited and provides rare insight concerning use of surrogates in a developing country.
