Abstract
Legal positivism is the view of law as “words in law books,” a body of rules capable of objective analysis. This article argues that in order to view the true nature of law, which transcends the man made words in law books, it is necessary to examine what it means to be human. This examination includes a study of humans as individuals and members of a community, and an analysis of the philosophical and theological underpinnings of law.
