Abstract

Enabling teamwork and increasing individual and organizational productivity, e-mail is crucial for communication at the workplace. Revisiting the theory of reasoned action and technology acceptance model, this research presents a novel perspective on employee perceptions impacting post-adoption usage of e-mail. Using a Pew survey, the study analyzes the impact of perceptions on attitude and usage behavior, differentiated by individual characteristics, such as gender and education. The findings suggest that hypothesized perceptions are significantly associated with attitude and both perceptions and attitude vary by education and partially by gender. However, neither gender nor education impacts the usage of work-related e-mail.

Keywords: E-mail usage, technology acceptance model, perceptions on technology, attitude towards technology, individual differences
