Abstract

While Ellen Sauerbrey would like voters to think she has changed over the last four years, supporters of civil rights will not be misled. They know she cannot run away from her poor legislative record. Whether the issue is strengthening the anti-discrimination laws, expanding economic opportunities for small and disadvantaged businesses or making appointments that reflect the diversity of all Marylanders, the clear choice is Gov. Parris Glendening.

First, over the last decade Mrs. Sauerbrey has opposed a variety of anti-discrimination and hate crimes legislation. She voted against the 1991 Hate Crimes law that extended coverage to include acts of violence motivated by the victim's sexual orientation.
