Abstract

This work presents a history of the German language in writings of German authors and scholars from the 17th century to modernity. These documents give an insight to the history and the major claims of this discipline. The diachronic approach to the topic allows to study each document as a testimony of its time and the development and changes in the discipline. The most known authors serve as the stepping stones for the path of this academic discipline of language studies.
