Abstract

This work presents the grammar of the English language as described in historical works of English grammarians and philologists of the English language. These documents give an insight to the history of the study of linguistics prior to the emergence of this discipline in the 20th century. The diachronic approach to the documentation of this topic allows to study each document as a testimony of its time and the state of research of the English language. It documents the changes of the English language as well as the different approaches to the English grammar by the philologists.
