Abstract
In recent years, the relationship between European and African countries has experienced significant changes in terms of policies and main actors involved. At the trade and development level, the Cotonou regime has put an end to the 25-year preferential agreement sealed through the Lomé Conventions and paved the way to market liberalization under the auspices of the WTO. Moreover, the creation of the African Union (AU) in 2002 and a new series of EU military missions in Africa have marked a turning point for Europe-Africa relations from both a political and military point of view.
