Abstract

The aim of this book is to enrich the understanding of private law in Latin America by exploring its normative assumptions, its origins, its evolution, its defects, and how we can improve it. The authors in this compilation use tools from disciplines other than traditional legal doctrine such as political and moral philosophy, economics, legal sociology, and gender studies. This enterprise is important because, in Latin America, the presence of traditional legal doctrine is overwhelming. The authors are young academics and lawyers who share the view that private law scholarship in Latin America can learn from these other disciplines.
