Abstract

Manufacturing industry’s responsibilities range from meeting full customers’ satisfaction to cater to profitability requirements of shareholders. While the stakeholders include the workers, customers and suppliers, the role of government and the impacts society has to withstand cannot be belied. Plywood Industry, currently presents a large ensemble of such issues where Honorable Supreme Court had to stand up to this Industry’s neglect of their responsibilities, and that act of court jeopardized the rights of many stakeholders in one go. Effects are many but causes need to be critically analyzed. Consequent development of a rejuvenation program for the industry, to fa-our all customers equitably, including neighborly Banyan tree should go a long way in protecting the direct interests of about a lac of wage-earners involved in various activities from trees to doors.

The authors have in this paper attempted to highlight some of the major ailments in the industry and tabulated an exhaustive industry’s SWOT. Three major issues identified permeate from lack of management commitment to technological incompetence, lack of process ownership as exhibited by workers to lack of attitude for ecology and resources; for the waste product which comes out as a bonus to them is abundantly available.
