Abstract

This essay was originally written shortly after the election. Viewed in hindsight, it appears Mr. Lapid was on a trajectory of self-destruction from the outset:

The article furnishes a commentary on the potential coalition of Mr Netanyahu and demonstrates the ineptitude of Mr Yair Lapid in choosing political bedfellows. I demonstrate that his current position - , if played out - will severely tarnish his reputation or result in his political demise, as well as bring down the present government. While this may be perceived as a fate to be avoided at all costs by the present government, an analysis of the after-effects of such an event would indicate it would eventually inure to the benefit of Netanyahu.
