Abstract

Is the Alternative Medicine? argues against legislation compelling third party payors to cover unproven complementary and alternative modalities CAM. Further, it suggests that the popularity of CAM evidences that the market is inadequate to protecting consumers against invalid treatments. As such, the article suggests that managed care regulators should monitor the representations being made by payors offering CAM options that are not supported by reliable studies of safety and efficacy.
