Abstract

In Canada, public companies are currently making a transition from the use of Canadian accounting standards to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This shift is fuelled by two key promises:

-That the international harmonization of accounting standards will result in comparable and consistent financial statements; and

-International accounting standards that are principlesbased (as opposed to rulesbased) will improve the quality of financial statements.
