Abstract
This paper synthesises research undertaken during 2011 and 2012 as part of a Master of Criminology and Corrections including:
* insights and observations made during visits to 16 drug courts and associated programs worldwide; * interviews with practitioners and participants in the Hobart Court Mandated Diversion (CMD) program; * my own experience of working in CMD; and * an extensive global literature review.
The paper highlights drug court strengths including cost savings and benefits reported by participants and concludes that well-run drug courts are intelligent and effective investment of public money.
