Abstract

English Abstract: Although interest rates over assets investment is one the main monetary policy instruments, there are few studies that quantify its impact in Colombia. Since the Ocampo, Londoño y Villar´s classic article, in which they find that investment does not react to interest rate, only a few studies that evaluate its effect trough the cost of using money have found significant results. Fainboim (1990) finds investment elasticities between -0.25 and -0.6, but it also shows that in the regressions where using cost components are the independent variables, real interest rate does not affect investment, result that agrees with previous studies. Botero, Ramirez and Palacio (2007), in the other hand, find a reduced elasticity over using cost, but they don´t estimate the contribution of the interest rate.
