German Abstract: Dieser Aufsatz zeichnet die US-Völkerrechtspolitik in einem hegemonialen Kontext nach. Er analysiert die Verbindungslinien zwischen einem weithin diagnostizierten Rückzug der USA vom Völkerrecht und der liberalen Umgestaltung der Völkerrechtsordnung nach und sieht beide Phänomene als eng aufeinander bezogen an.

English Abstract: This article traces US policies towards international law in an age of American hegemony. It analyses how the widely perceived retreat from international law is connected to the remaking of the international legal order in a liberal vein and understands both phenomena as intimately connected.
