Abstract

Internal colonialism is a broadly defined term which captures the complexities of structural, political, and economic inequalities between regions within a nation-state. It also depicts intra-national exploitation of distinct cultural groups. The theoretical construct of the internal colonialism model has emerged from the theory of dependency that had been developed in the post-World War II period. As per the theory, the “infrastructure of dependency,” which was internal to the dependent country, included industrial organization, patterns of urbanization, and social classes.

Keywords: Internal Colonialism, dependency theory, M K Gandhi, clientele class
