How American Democracy Learns from Crisis (КАК АМЕРИКАНСКАЯ ДЕМОКРАТИЯ УЧИТСЯ НА КРИЗИСАХ)

Abstract

English Abstract: This year marks the fortieth anniversary of the influential report The Crisis of Democracy. As it happens, many commentators think that democracy is in crisis again today. And there were major "crises of democracy" before the 1970s as well. It is tempting to think that this series of crises demonstrates the weakness of American democracy, and perhaps of all democracies. This is a mistaken conclusion. Such crises are part of the process by which democracies learn and adapt to new challenges. In a sense, we can think of these crises as evidence of the resilience rather than the fragility of democratic systems.

Russian Abstract: В этом году исполняется сороковая годовщина влиятельного доклад Кризис демократии . Как это происходит , многие комментаторы считают, что демократия находится в кризисе и сегодня.
