Abstract
English Abstract: The expansion of sharing practices made possible by digitization and computer networks has led researchers to apply the notion of commons to the field of intellectual goods - in cases such as free software, Wikipedia and open access scholarly publishing. This article discusses a series of language and terminology issues surrounding this concept and its translations (particularly into Portuguese): the article examines some common misunderstandings about it, as the confusion of legal, economic and theological meanings attached to the expression "common good"; presents the different expressions used to name it in other languages, discusses the merits and disadvantages of the options available in Portuguese, and argues for the option "bens comuns".
