Abstract

Wright examines California legislation that would conform to pension changes included in the federal Economic Growth and Tax Reconciliation Act of 2001. In the Legislature, the attempt to conform to the pension changes has been linked to a provision requiring companies to make the same elections for California tax purposes as for federal tax purposes. Many corporate lobbyists oppose the latter change. Wright explains the possible consequences of the election change proposal.
