Abstract
To quote an adage, "The future is not what it used to be." Global warming has changed the calculus for power production and a sustainable future. Looking into the Power Future, this article identifies a dozen factors that are the formative forces that will determine how the United States must use power in the future. There is fundamental change in the power demands and supplies of the world. Modern industrial economies depend on power as the sine qua non of modern existence. Our legal system and regulatory structure for energy and the environment, have grown up around this physical infrastructure. This article identifies "pivot points" to rotate U.S. energy law and regulation to turn the society to a more sustainable future.
