Abstract

This article provides the results of a pilot survey conducted into gauging the views of employers of Sydney University law graduates' legal skills. A number of known employers (from law firms to NGOs and government) were asked what they considered the strengths and weaknesses of the legal skill base of law graduates from Sydney University and also what legal skills they would like university law graduates to possess (keeping in mind that law graduates would undertake practical legal training after graduating at specialised colleges before they would be admitted to practice). The article considers the legal scholarship concerning skills training and theoretical and practical arguments about skills training.
