Abstract

During the 21st century "CyberCanadians" will face many new challenges from cybercrime, especially as "knowledge production" is rapidly becoming one of Canada's new staple industries. But this knowledge production is taking place in a globalised environment with globalised and glocal impacts and risks. Under the somewhat ambitious and, as shall be explained later, ambiguous, paper title, the major developments in information and communications technology that are transforming Canada will be outlined. The paper will then explore their impacts upon criminal behavior before discussing how information and communications technologies are transforming our world and are creating new opportunities for crime. It will then argue that cybercrime has evolved through different generations of information technology before mapping out the substantively different types of cybercrime. In the final section of the paper the various challenges that cybercrimes pose for criminal justice systems will be discussed.
