Abstract
Achieving a National Mediator Accreditation System has been a project that has taken many years within Australia. It has taken the concerted efforts of industry based organisations, professional membership groups, government and non government agencies, educators, researchers, consumers and mediators to design a system that can be responsive to the divergent field that is described as mediation. Mediation is now used within Australia almost everywhere where there are disputes and is increasingly used as a process to guide future decision making. This Report comments on the new National Mediation Accreditation Scheme that commenced in January 2008. The Report on the Scheme includes approval standards, practice standards and overarching documentation used to create new structures to assist the mediation field into the future.
