Abstract

This paper reviews the kind of problems, errors and failures that have occurred in a number of countries where elections were automated using electronic voting machines. It also traces the deeper causes of these problems, such as software errors, hardware problems, environmental stresses, human errors, design flaws and malicious tampering.
