Abstract
This paper is written in Spanish. The paper analyzes how to create leverage in philanthropy. A strategic approach to designing programs or selecting grantees is often a necessary condition for leverage, identifying the intervention that creates the greatest positive impact at a given level of social investment. How can one design truly effective programs that enable "crowding in" - mobilizing resources from other donors or encouraging replication of the model? A strategic approach helps to locate points of leverage, and encourages the design of interventions that bring about the greatest result with the resources at hand. The paper argues that a theory of change is necessary to assess the adequacy of costs and investments, and proposes a holistic, dashboard approach to measuring the key quantitative and qualitative variables that co-determine performance.
