Abstract

This paper argues that social entrepreneurs have a role to play in turning the tide on global issues as exemplified by the Millennium Development Goals, where innovative entrepreneurship interventions are critical. The paper introduces the individualist and the contextualist schools of social entrepreneurship. The former focuses on the traits that differentiate social entrepreneurs from other social agents, and the latter emphasizing the relationship between the phenomenon of globalization and the emergence of social entrepreneurship as a frame of reference. Subsequently, the paper examines where social entrepreneurship interventions have comparative advantage, and how the diffusion of their innovations can be accelerated.
