Abstract

The television industry in Europe is in the midst of significant change, with increasing challenges in consumer demands and digitalization. Soon television will cater to diverse consumer needs for information, communication and entertainment through specialized, niche content via multichannel offerings. With increasing competition from convergence players in TV, telecommunications and the Internet, the industry is confronting unparalleled complexity and pressure to change. TVP - the Polish national broadcaster - is facing a need to develop a new business model. The article is divided into an analysis of TVP's competitive strategy and a case study considering the development of thematic channels at TVP.
