Abstract
The assembly plant of PSA in Vigo has become a paradigm of efficiency within the French group as well as among the Spanish factories. Its model can hardly surprise anyone, however: investment in new technologies, organizational innovation on the shop floor and in its relation with suppliers, labor flexibility and employee participation. There are no secrets or miracle recipes. Theory is well known. The major merit of the members of PSA-Vigo - from the top management to the last operator - resides in applying theory to real life with an effective local touch. This paper describes, particularly, how conventional wisdom is materialized on a plant which, despite all the effort done, is very aware of its present flaws and future challenges. Both aspects are also addressed here.
