Abstract
The paper addresses the problem of the allocation of decision rights on the shop floor. We try to solve particular limitations of Agency Theory by presenting a complementary approach based on Organization Theory and Transaction Cost Economics. Empirical evidence stems from two industries with very different institutional and technological tratis: the Spanish food and electric/electronic industries. Data confirms our main thesis: the delegation of strategic and operating decisions can be linked to the attributes of labor trasactions as well as to particular organizational traits.
