Abstract
This study examines 316 seafood processors (NAICS 3117) located along the eastern seaboard of the USA (from Maine to Florida) to determine whether firm characteristics significantly influence their propensity to import and export. The variables examined are number of employees, total sales, years in business, and international trade activity (exporter/non-exporter, importer/non-importer). The results of the study indicate that the value of using firm characteristics to predict import or export behavior is negligible.
