Abstract

Entrepreneurship and technology commercialization areseen as a continuously evolving field of scholarship. The significance ofeconomic experiments as an empirical method for research in this area isdemonstrated by reviewing previous studies.A framework is providedthrough which a research question is matched with a recommended empiricalapproach. A previously conducted study (Schade and Levesque, 2005) of an R&D-basedstartup used for an economic experiment regarding timing of opportunityexploitation is evaluated in detail. Economic experiments, when used insuitable situations, can be utilized in the development of new theory or themodification of current theory. (SRY)
