Abstract

Although the Netherlands has had more than fifty years of experience as a member of the European Union, the national debate on the implementation of EU law is still vivid. In fact, the last years have shown a renewed interest in the matter, partly as a result of the attempts made by the Dutch government to speed up the implementation process. The question rises whether the Dutch implementation system - that is closely following the rules and principles of the general system of legislation - is in need of changes of a more fundamental nature.

Keywords: EU implementation, legislative procedures, Dutch legal system
