Abstract

What are we to do when we are faced with retrenchments or loss of jobs in an economic crisis or financial downturn? Most times, opportunities may present themselves; but it depends on whether one recognizes them. In this paper, the practitioner-academician author primarily examines the various opportunities that may be available for corporations, and those that should be harnessed during an economic crisis or downturn. It also seeks to offer key tips and pointers to individuals in surviving tough times. The paper also secondarily illustrates the applications of de Bono’s (1985, 1999) thinking hats or ‘full’ spectrum thinking, exploring the range of key possibilities.

Keywords: crisis, opportunities, thinking hats, survival tips
