Abstract

Canada shares only one land border: the one with the United States. This geographical situation protects Canada from large uncontrolled migratory flows as known in many other western countries. This relative isolation allows the Canadian government to effectively control the entries in the country and apply an relatively voluntarist immigration policy. Canada can choose, according to predetermined criteria, who will be admitted as immigrant, and thus exclude those who do not fit with the desired profile
