Abstract

The Planet, earth is the only place we know of in the whole universe where mankind can live. We need to take care of it. Today developing and developed countries are facing severe and serious environmental problems. We not only face environmental problems but also create them. Our environment has an effect on us and is affected by us. The quality of our life depends on 3P’s namely population, poverty and pollution. Among the 3P’s population is the main problem that affects the environment

Children are exposed to environmental activities similar to curricular activities. European Committee (1988), British Royal Commission (1971), Finnish National Commission (1974) and United Nations Conference (2002) said that the students’ effective interaction with environment is motivated and guided by the teacher. World educators and environmental specialists have repeatedly pointed out that any solution to the environmental crisis will require environmental knowledge and understanding to be deeply rooted in the educational system at all levels.

In this study investigated the relationship of Awareness and Attitude of Environmental Education among B.Ed. college students. The data were collected from 404 teacher trainees randomly selected from 6 B.Ed. colleges from Chennai city. These students are from Government, Aided and Private colleges have been based on the simple random sampling technique. Different types of statistical techniques like ANOVA, Chi Square etc. were used for this study.

The findings indicated that girls have high level of Awareness and Attitude towards environmental Education than the boys. Tamil Medium students have high level of Awareness and Attitude towards environmental education than the English Medium students. Students those who were economically categorized in high level, their attitude of environmental education is better than the other categorized students etc.
