Recent Developments is Assisted Reproductive Technologies

Abstract

This symposium presentation addresses recent development in Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTS), but strays from that topic to discuss the implication of Lawrence v. Texas on reproductive issues. It argues, that carried to the logical extreme, Lawrence v. Texas could have profound effects on procreative liberty. ARTS allows women to reproduce without interaction from men. In ARTS we are talking about reproduction removed from sex, while in Lawrence we are talking about sexual relationships. The Lawrence Court’s approval of substantive due process, acceptance of a principle that moral reasons cannot underlie secular law, and international human rights normal can be a basis for interpreting American law all indicate a positive outlook for reproductive rights.
