Abstract

The Inclusive Business (IB) approach challenges some of our traditional views on the role of the market in the fight against the poverty – among them, the idea that this fight can only be pursued through pure and disinterested altruism. Though solidarity is a fundamental value to build more equitable societies, there are good reasons why we might want to expand our views. Looking at novel ideas through yesterday’s conceptual lenses will constraint our possibilities, and may be counterproductive. Although Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has an important role to play in the construction of IB models, the latter cannot be subsumed in the former umbrella, as just another form of “socially responsible” behavior.
